A little different to my usual hand drawn lettering, calligraphy has a wonderful essence of romance about it. The beginners class was introduction to practicing shapes and strokes, starting with just lines, then onto circles, and gradually onto letters — then words. I must admit it’s way harder than it looks but I was assured practice makes perfect and that patience is definitely key.
The class was at The Blacksmith & The Toffeemaker in Islington and hosted by online stationery boutique Quill with calligrapher Immy Owen. For under £40 you get 3 hours to watch, learn and experiment, an unlimited supply of delicious tea and cake, plus all the materials to keep! Perfect Sunday afternoon.
