Co-curating Small Talk event

How I co-curated an event bringing together Birmingham based creatives for inspiring talks and an exhibition.

Small Talk was an evening that brought together Birmingham based creatives for an inspiring event of talks, an exhibition and some nachos. Our ambition was that those who came down would get involved in a bit of small talk with someone they’ve never met before. Because you never know; one little chat with someone new might lead into a much bigger conversation.  SmallTalkevent_Birmingham2 SmallTalkevent_Birmingham4

The brainchild of my other half Gavin Auty, Small Talk came off the back of Badego, a fortnightly meet up for creative types in the city to hang out and eat nachos. Speakers included Matt Nation (Provide), Immy Kaur (TEDxBrum / Hub Birmingham), Luke Tonge (FormFiftyFive / Boat), Jenny Theolin (Soapbox & Sons) and Thom Bartley (Project Coordinator and Yo-yo extraordinaire). Not forgetting the beats from producer Kouben.

Having previous experience of exhibitions, I was again excited to curate this one, inviting fellow Badego attendees and local Brummy talents to submit their creations! We had an amazing response to the brief from fabulous artists such as Sam Pierpoint, Sweaty Eskimo and Jimmy Rogers to name but a few.

Huge thanks to Katy Smith for the event photography. Here’s a little peek at my exhibition piece…
